Regional Economics and Public Policies

Presentation

The postgraduate degree program in Regional Economics and Public Policies, a master's degree, was founded and licensed by CAPES (a Brazilian federal government agency responsible for quality assurance in postgraduate institutions in Brazil) in October 2012 with the beginning of academic activities in March 2013.

Although being an interdisciplinary program, it has a link with the University of Santa Cruz (UESC) Department of Economics, which hosts and supports it.

Our program is a pioneer program, the first one with a focus on Regional Economics with its headquarter outside our State's capital. This remarkable fact has generated a consistent demand for our Master's degree course.

Our Master's degree course takes 24 months long, focusing on offering a strong research skills background as well as on promoting actions to improve regional development. One of our most essential contribution to our area society consists of supplying high-quality human capital professionals with high standard scientific knowledge.

Mission

Our mission consists of offering the students a solid scientific background in regional economics and public policy analysis. We aim to train students to develop skills which allow them to actuate as researchers, professors as well as policymakers.

Main Fields

We are mainly interested in studying, from an interdisciplinary point of view, questions related to Regional Economics and Public Policy Analysis.

Scholarship

The availability of scholarships to our students depends on the existence of funding from Brazilian funding agencies, as CAPES, CNPq, and FAPESB. The acceptance of an applicant as a student does not imply granting a scholarship. It is mandatory to be enrolled as a full-time student to be eligible for a scholarship application.

The scholarship distribution criteria can be defined by the funding agencies or by our program directly, depending on the kind of scholarship-granting regulation.
